Why Calgary Drivers Are Choosing Ceramic Coating

Calgary's climate is rough on paint. Road salt from October through April eats into clear coat. UV exposure during long summer days accelerates oxidation. Stone chips from highway gravel are everywhere on the QE2 and Deerfoot. Your paint takes a beating year-round, and a weekly wash does nothing to stop it.

Ceramic coating bonds directly to your vehicle's clear coat and forms a hard, hydrophobic layer that sheds water, blocks UV rays, and resists salt, bird droppings, tree sap, and minor abrasion. It is not a temporary wax that washes off. It is a semi-permanent layer that works every single day without you thinking about it.

Resale value is the other reason buyers commit. A vehicle with documented ceramic protection and maintained paintwork commands a stronger position at trade-in or private sale. You spend less time washing. You spend less on detailing. Your paint looks better for longer. That is the real case for ceramic coating.

The Ceramic Coating Process

1

Wash and Decontamination

The vehicle gets a full hand wash to remove loose dirt and grime, followed by an iron fallout treatment that dissolves bonded metallic particles baked into your paint from brake dust and road debris. This step cannot be skipped. Coating over contamination locks problems in permanently.

45 to 60 minutes
2

Clay Bar Treatment

A detailing clay bar is worked across every painted surface to lift out embedded contaminants that washing alone cannot remove. After claying, the paint surface is smooth to the touch and ready to bond correctly with the ceramic coating.

30 to 60 minutes
3

Paint Correction (where included)

For Pro Shield and Elite Armor tiers, a machine polisher is used to reduce or remove swirl marks, light scratches, and water etching from the clear coat. Coating over defects seals them in permanently, so this step determines the final result. The depth of correction depends on your chosen tier.

2 to 6 hours depending on paint condition and tier
4

Panel Wipe and Surface Prep

Every painted surface is wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol preparation solution to remove any remaining polish oils or residue. The paint needs to be completely clean and free of any lubricants before ceramic coating is applied, otherwise adhesion fails.

20 to 30 minutes
5

Ceramic Coating Application

The ceramic coating is applied panel by panel using a suede applicator block. Each section is levelled and wiped before the coating begins its initial flash cure. Layering happens in sequence for Pro Shield and Elite Armor. This is meticulous, time-controlled work done in a controlled environment.

2 to 4 hours depending on vehicle size and tier
6

Cure Period and Final Inspection

The coating needs time to fully cure and harden before the vehicle is exposed to water or the elements. A final inspection checks for high spots, streaks, or missed areas under direct lighting before the vehicle is handed back. You leave with a post-care sheet outlining exactly what to avoid during the first two weeks.

1 to 2 hours for initial cure check, full cure takes 7 to 14 days

Ceramic Coating FAQ

Ceramic coating pricing depends on the tier you choose, the size of your vehicle, and the current condition of your paint. All Shine offers three tiers: Essential Protection, Pro Shield, and Elite Armor. Each tier includes different levels of paint prep and coating layers, which affects the final cost. Get a free quote and we will give you a firm number based on your specific vehicle.
Durability depends on the tier applied and how the vehicle is maintained afterward. Entry-level coatings typically protect for one to two years with proper care. Higher-tier coatings with multiple layers can last three to five years or longer. Regular maintenance washes using pH-neutral products make a significant difference to coating longevity.
Plan for a full day. Most ceramic coating appointments with All Shine take between six and twelve hours depending on vehicle size, current paint condition, and the tier selected. Paint correction work ahead of coating adds significant time and is worth every hour. Same-day drop-off and collection is standard for most bookings.
Wash the vehicle every two to four weeks using a pH-neutral shampoo and a clean wash mitt. Avoid automatic brush carwashes as bristles cause swirl marks that dull the coating over time. Do not apply wax or sealant on top of the ceramic coating as these products interfere with its hydrophobic performance. We provide a full care sheet with every coating job.
Warranty coverage depends on the tier you select and the specific coating product used. We will walk you through warranty details when you get your quote so you know exactly what is covered and for how long. Warranties are typically tied to documented maintenance and avoid certain conditions like automatic carwash use.
Yes, by a significant margin in terms of durability and protection level. Wax lasts four to eight weeks before it washes off and needs reapplication. Paint sealant lasts six to twelve months. Ceramic coating bonds chemically to your clear coat and does not wash away. It is also significantly harder than wax, offering better resistance to light scratches, UV rays, road salt, and chemical contamination. The upfront cost is higher but the long-term protection and reduced maintenance makes it the more practical choice for most Calgary drivers.
Yes. All Shine Auto and RV Detailing coats cars, trucks, SUVs, and recreational vehicles across Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, and Okotoks. Larger vehicles take longer and the quote will reflect that. Mobile service options may be available depending on your location and the tier selected.
That depends on the current condition of your paint. If your paint already has visible swirl marks, scratches, or oxidation, those defects will be locked in permanently under the coating if they are not addressed first. We inspect every vehicle before booking and will be straight with you about what level of correction, if any, makes sense for your situation.
